As London Fashion Week got under way at the weekend, we were on the edge of our seats waiting to hear the latest on hair and make up trends, style, front row fans and backstage gossip! We had the gorgeous Lorna Weightman from StyleIsle on the ground in London to report back to you and here is her summary of the shows to date!
‘Nobody was expecting the torrential rain that swept across London on day one of fashion week. Umbrellas were out in force, but little did we know that the rain would spark a trend. The LFW attendees rocked the top knot as they hobbled across the cobblestones at Somerset House, eager to escape the downpours, and keep their hair in one piece. The top knot with its slicked back hair and either rolled or plaited into the bun on the crown was the style of choice. Low maintenance and unaffected by the rain thanks to some pomade and a lot of hair spray. I joined the top knot army and have to say that even though the rest of me was soaking my hair stayed intact across the six shows I attended on day one. And that was just the street style trend, the Spring Summer catwalk was a different matter. Spring Summer has sparked a laid back hair revolution, as very few designers opted for up styles, most keeping to relaxed styles embodying the spirit of the warmer seasons.
To complement the romanticism of his collection, John Rocha opted for slick back long styles, “crimped” into a wave on his models. This look will be so easy to re-create next season with any kind of wave-making hair tool. The hair had a wet look to it, created using gel spray according to back stage reports which made the hair very structured.
Later in the day, Ashish went down the same route, but to pair up with the casual-street look of his collection, hair was down and wavy but oh my goodness was I not expecting coloured stripes! From black and yellow to monochrome, model’s hair was dyed in horizontal stripes, let’s just hope it washed out. Not your everyday hair look, but for emphasising the nature of a collection like this one, it was perfect.
Backstage at Jean Pierre Braganza, I observed the busy team of stylists were busy creating messy blow dries with middle partings, a simple approach you might say but perfectly aligned with the vibrant prints and complex structures JP likes to go for. On the catwalk billowing blow dries were the perfect choice.
The same goes for Markus Lupfer, whose general inspiration was a teenage girl’s bedroom; long flowing locks portrayed innocence and worked alongside the clashing floral prints in the collection. Antipodium’s salon show allowed me to get up close to look at hair, with one model stopping to pose for me! Beachy waves were the hot trend here, so make sure you invest in some salt spray for next season to get this look! The only designer I observed with an upstyle was Turkish designer, Bora Aksu (a personal favourite) whose loose french rolls spiralled down into a messy bun. Hair was then pulled out with combs to deconstruct a style that can look a little manicured. In line with the perfect summer look, Topshop didn’t over complicate their look on models like Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn whose long Ibiza-style hair was my hair pick of the week so far. Volume was a key factor and with a couple of large rollers, there’s no excuse for not being able to get this look in your own bedroom!Lorna Weightman, Styleisle.ie
We have been long time fans of the gorgeous Holly Carpenter and lucky to call her a friend of the salon. Recently Holly did a stunning shoot with VIP Magazine after competing in Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model and we were on hand to tend to the famous tresses at the plush Marker Hotel. Holly is a natural beauty and on the day her hair reflected the same. We went for natural looks and girl next door pony tail, loose tumbling waves and a sleek low bun…all looks very achievable at home! Holly also sported BUFF Make Up with make up artist Lara Ford on hand.
It’s been a busy few weeks here at Hession Hairdressing and our artistic team have been out on shoots the length and breath of the country! As always we like to share some of the great work that has featured and first up this month is the gorgeous Decades of Beauty make over featured in Xpose magazine. We were thrilled to look after 4 wonderful candidates for Xpose magazine during the summer and delighted to see another decade featured recently in the magazine. With the hair make over courtesy of Paul and our gorgeous BUFF Make Up featured, the final result was stunning!
You’ll see we recently posted a new Bridal make-up tutorial on with the super Emma Farrell and thought you might like to have a step by step guide to follow and accompany the video!
Starting with the eyes: Use Pebbles Eyeshadow as a base, with Urban Eyeshadow all over the lid. Clubbing Eyeshadow adds the perfect pop of sparkle on the centre of the eyelid. Heffner Eyeshadow for extra definition along with perfection eyeshadow on the inner corner of the eye and underneath the brow bone.
Use the gel Black Eyeliner along the lash line, flicking your line upwards and outwards to lift and elongate the eye. To make your eyes appear nice and large Emma recommends using the White Eyeliner Pencil on the waterline to open them up.
Apply a gorgeous set of natural yet fluffy false eyelashes to really set off the look, also applying mascara on over the lashes as it helps to bind the natural lash to the artificial one and gives a much cleaner and more natural look to the lashes.
Use the BUFF Camera Ready Primer to smooth out the skin and prepare it for the base. Apply HD Foundation in light motions with a brush. If you buff this into the skin well it gives the appearance of an airbrush finish. Once you have applied the foundation conceal underneath the eyes and any blemishes and to set your flawless face, a light dusting of the BUFF Dual Powder is recommended.
Contour the cheeks, jaw and nose for a slimming look. The flash from the camera can leave your face looking very flat, so this step is not to be skipped for Bridal Make-up! Highlight above the cheek bones with the Mineral Icing Sugar, this gives a gorgeous dewy glow. Don’t forget your Melba blusher for a fresh hint of colour.
Lips: Finish the look off with a gorgeous natural pink lip look, Emma pencilled in the outline and centre of the lips with lip liner then applied BUFF Nibble Lip-gloss which is perfect on most skin tones.
If you try this look yourself we would love to hear from you and how you get on.

We had an exciting week at Hession Hairdressing in between shooting for VIP Magazine and U Magazine, along with Tara visiting Manchester as a part of the L’Oreal ID Artistic Team and Laura working on the Miss Ireland show as a part of the Great Lengths Extensions Artistic Team. The week finished up with the arrival of some special guests with the lovely Holly Carpenter. Holly as many of you will know is a top Irish model, a former Miss Ireland and currently competing in Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model TV show.
The series features a group of young female contestants who live together in a house for several weeks while taking part in challenges, photo shoots and meetings with members of the modelling industry. Holly is certainly keeping good company with the current judging panel consisting of Elle Macpherson, Tyson Beckford, and fashion designer, pop star, model, and former X Factor Judge Dannii Minogue.
We were delighted to have Holly visit us for hair & visit the BUFF Make Up Suite last week along with her model pals Naomi Pelkiewicz, Saffron Williams and Sophie Ellson.
We regularly suffer from hair envy as we look at long, luscious celebrity tresses, silky smooth, glossy and not a split end in sight! Well we can all feel that bit better in knowing many of them fake it! Everyone from Kim Kardashian, Jessica Simpson to Britney Spears and Selina Gomez are all sporting hair extensions on a daily basis. Hair extensions, clip in extensions, hair pieces have all become the must have accessory to change your look in an instant. They are used not only for added length but also by people with fine hair to add thickness and volume to their hair.
Professionally attached extensions are the options chosen by celebrities to get the looks we all want to attain. If you seek out an experienced hair extensionist you will be able to get the looks you really want, here at Hession Hairdressing we use Great Lengths Hair Extensions. Superior quality, this 100% real human hair is 100% ethical and 100% traceable! With celebrity users including Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Aniston, Demi Lovato and Kate Beckinsale it’s nice to know you can avail of Hollywood glamour and celebrity tresses!
TOP TIPS:Do not shampoo for two days after your Great Lengths application. When shampooing, always wash your hair with your head back, not tilted forward. Never dry with a scrubbing action, instead wrap a towel to absorb the excess moisture. When allowing your hair to “air dry,” Great Lengths recommends that the attachment sites be dried with a blow dryer to prevent the bonds from remaining wet for an extended period of time. Always use the Great Lengths Anti-tap Formula after every wet treatment. The Anti-tap Formula is designed to neutralize irregularities in your water source and/or to protect the keratin bond polymers from chlorine, saltwater and other solutions not compatible with a proper pH. To prevent premature bond breakdown always saturate your hair with water and apply Great Lengths Anti-tap Formula prior to swimming, exercising, using a sauna or any activity that creates moisture in your hair for an extended period of time. Immediately after such activities, shampoo thoroughly, condition, apply the Anti-tap Formula and blow-dry the bonds. Brush your hair three times a day with the recommended Great Lengths brush. Unlike many extension systems, regular and thorough brushing is recommended for Great Lengths extensions. Beginning at the nape, brush row by row, scalp to ends. Always pull your hair into a soft ponytail while sleeping as it will prevent tangling
It has been such an exciting week! The L’Oreal Colour Trophy finals took place this week at the Convention Centre and if that’s not exciting enough, the awards were presented by Bressie. We certainly like to keep good company! We were honoured and thrilled to be in the presence of such an amazing calibre of industry professionals and yes Hession Hairdressing Clontarf came 3rd on the night, so we are VERY HAPPY! A huge congratulations to Tara and Marian on their stunning entry.
For those of you not familiar with the L’Oreal Colour Trophy Awards, it uniquely combines fashion, inspiration, creativity and turns hairdressing into a spectacular and breathtaking show and this week we were delighted to have 2 teams feature in the final. Marian O’Meara and Tara Smartt represented Clontarf and we were so excited and proud to see the girls awarded 3rd prize on the night. It is wonderful to have such phenomenal talent on our team and we are looking forward to next year already!
